The Avengers Monorail debuted today on the Express Loop at Walt Disney World (below, left). Captain America, Thor and Iron Man are among the super heroes on the wrapped train (below, right). It was a rainy day when we arrived at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, but it started clearing up soon after. We had been told that the Avengers monorail might be taken soon from the beam, but it was there for the entire time we were.
Thor (below, left) appears to fly along the monorail. The Black Widow (below, right) holds up a gun to shoot. We noticed that the wrap on the train is the same on each side, except reversed. It did take a bit getting used too seeing all the Marvel characters (now Disney owned) going past the Magic Kingdom.
Lightning electrifies the look of the monorail (below, left), and the title of the film is seen here. We also took photos and video from inside of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you can see it entering near Chef Mickey’s (below, right).
The Avengers logo is visible in the Grand Canyon Concourse, near Mary Blair’s mural (below, left). The Avengers Monorail takes a loop past Space Mountain (below, right). Almost exactly two years ago, the Tron Monorail made it’s debut on the Epcot beam. You can see that video below as well!

Yesterday at the Magic Kingdom, we went in for a brief visit – in part to get a Citrus Swirl at the Sunshine Tree Terrace (below, left). The sign is new, and the refurbishment is complete. The tiki statues look better than ever (below, right).
Here is a view of the tikis behind the counter (below, left). While the Orange Bird is not easily visible, you can see a tribute to him behind the sign (below, right). There isn’t much that would have gotten Denise out of the line after 10 minutes of waiting for a Citrus Swirl, but I saw someone I knew (the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game designer) and went to say hi – and he was standing right next to John Lasseter! He was extremely gracious to us, taking out his Lightning McQueen card (he’d been playing Sorcerers) for a photo with each of us (below left and right). We’d even heard he’d been in the park from a friend an hour earlier, but didn’t think much about it until we saw the Hawaiian shirt! Denise joked that if John Lasseter had on a polo shirt and glasses, nobody would recognize him – he’s already very low-key in the park. It was a perfect ending to a exciting and busy week!
Video #3 – Sunshine Tree Terrace Refurb Complete 3/30/12 Adventureland, Magic Kingdom, Hidden Orange Bird – The Sunshine Tree Terrace has a new sign (which hides the Orange Bird behind it), and is no longer under refurbishment! It has been open during the rehab period. The Tiki Torches have also been repaired and it looks great!
