Hi everyone!

We spent time at both Animal Kingdom and Epcot today, it was incredibly hot, so we were happy when the wind and rain started coming closer (we just made it out of Epcot before the downpour!) Hacienda de San Angel is partly unveiled, and you can see the colorful dome against Spaceship Earth (below, left). From the patio of the Mexico pavilion, another angle (below, right).

The dome design is really nice (below, left), I’m looking forward to trying this upcoming restaurant (from further away – below, right).

Glas und Porzellan (below, left and right) is closed to make way for a Werther candy shop.  I’ll miss the original shop, though it’s changed over the years and look forward to seeing what Werther does with the location.

Pizzeria Napoli (below, left) in the Italy Pavilion is set to soft open next week on August 5th! Of course, we’ll be there to cover the opening of this new restaurant. Writing on the windows (below, right) can be seen over the wall.

There are two statues (below left and right), one with flowers on her head and in her arms – the other statue has grapes as adornment.

This area (below, left) looks like the entrance to the restaurant.  A longer view of Via Napoli (below, right) shows the storm clouds building.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – July 22, 2010 –Guillermo del Toro surprised the 6,500 fans gathered today at Comic-Con with the announcement that he is currently developing a new film for The Walt Disney Studios based on the classic Disney theme park attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy.  After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters – think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro.  “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”

“Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.”

Since August 1969, foolish mortals have dared to trespass on the macabre grounds of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. A hallowed landmark in Disneyland’s New Orleans square, it’s the dwelling place of 999 happy haunts dying to meet new visitors each day. The plantation-style of the mansion’s facade is a sweet deception for visitors. Inside, ghostly doom buggies line the hallways. Since its construction, the mysteries of the mansion have transcended the attraction with stories surfacing about horrifying encounters with the supernatural.  Versions of the daunting edifice have been built at other Disney theme parks in Orlando, Tokyo and Paris.

D23 joined with the Disney Vacation Club last night to put on a fun evening to promote the new Hawaii DVC resort, Aulani. We were greeted with a sign on the 1st floor of the Contemporary Resort (below, left) that sent us up one more flight to the Ballroom of America. A model display that was similar (but maybe smaller) than the set up at the D23 Expo (below, right) was available to look at.

Hi everyone!

I had a great time last night celebrating Disneyland’s 55th Birthday. Normally I celebrate it at Disneyland, but this year we didn’t make it out there for July and spent the evening reliving Disneyland opening day attractions at the Magic Kingdom (below, left). Along the way, we took some photos of the construction projects around the Magic Kingdom. The courtyard area of Exposition Hall is now open and looks great, with new landscaping and brickwork (below, right).
