Disney Festival of Fantasy debuted on Sunday! This magnificent parade features many favorite characters, elaborate floats and a catchy musical score – not to mention a fire-breathing Maleficent dragon! We went during the first two days, picture perfect for photos and video! Belle and Beast (below, left) lead the princess float, which also is the title float. Cinderella and Prince Charming are next on the float (below, right).
The Tinker Bell float is new, with more than 25,000 points of light (below left and right).
Mickey’s Train announces the name of the parade (below left and right).
Alice from Alice in Wonderland sits aloft on a mushroom, while the Cheshire Cat flashes his wide grin (below, left). The pirate ship from Peter Pan spews smoke (below, right).
After a 13 year absence from the parade, the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Diamond Mine float is back with enhanced lighting (below left and right).
Also back after 13 years is Pinocchio on the Pleasure Island float (below left). You can see the special lighting effects (below, right).
Returning favorite Elliott from Pete’s Dragon, snorts smoke out of his nose (below, left). The “To Honor America” float brings up the rear (below, right).

Jeff Lange takes you back in time to experience this first in a series of DVDs featuring vintage parades from Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom!
Features the following classic parades: “Surprise Celebration Parade” (1991), “Mickey Mania Parade” (1994), “Remember The Magic Parade” (1996) and “Share A Dream Come True Parade” (2001)!
Walt Disney World rolled out the Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade without the Villains Float, but with many more characters interacting with guests. Characters like Geppetto also are in the street and not on the float.
Pluto waves to the crowd (below, left). Geppetto now walks through the street, shaking hands with guests (below, right).
There has been continued interest in my vintage Main Street Electrical Parade Photos, and I’ve found more images that I will be sharing with you today! I hope you enjoy these photos taken either by myself or my father, Walter Lange – a Disney fan who shared the love of the parks with his family and got me started on all this.
Florida’s Main Street Electrical Parade opening unit (above left) announces the parade. “WDW’s 15th Float” (above right and below) was a special float to honor Walt Disney World’s 15th Anniversary. That float was only used for one season!
Note the one dimensional design of these early floats (above right).
The elusive “Pinocchio UnderwaterUnit” featured Monstro the whale (above left). A mystery (to me) has been resolved as many readers have identified the cars as from The Fox and the Hound – “Widow Tweed’s Car” (above right).
During production of my recently released Main Street Electrical Parade DVD, I came across some interesting images of long retired floats and parade elements. I am presenting them here for all to enjoy!
Below is the Florida opening unit of the Main Street Electrical Parade, followed by Toy Soldiers from Babes in Toyland. As a kid, I thought this was a special Christmas bonus as we often traveled to Walt Disney World for the holidays. I remember seeing them one July and realizing they were always part of the parade.
Next we have the “It’s A Small World” section that ran from 1977 – 1991. This was unique as it was the only float that was based on a park attraction.
This next series of photos is very rare. These photos were taken by my father in 1976 (when “America on Parade” was being performed). I don’t recall ever seeing a Pinocchio Monstro float in the Main Street Electrical parade. Look carefully and you will see the large headed America on Parade characters driving the vehicles. Was this a nighttime version of America on Parade?
If anyone has more information about these parade units please email me at Jeff@JeffLangeDVD.com and I will post the information on the site.
