We had the opportunity to ride Epcot’s new Test Track 2.0 (below, left) during the Cast Member preview yesterday! Thanks to Steve Fox for inviting us, we had a great time. The queue and much of the attraction has been completely redesigned, with a clear Tron-inspired feel to it. A Chevrolet En-V is displayed near the entrance.
There is a video about designing cars, and the design on the car (below, left) changes. We were given a “design key” before queuing up to design our car (below, right). Each number on the floor is for 2 or 3 guests, who all share a design station.
We had a great time designing our cars! This allows each pass through the attraction to be unique. The ride itself isn’t different at all, but the design station (below, left) lets you design a car that can be used later. We had some very uniquely styled vehicles (below, right).
This was our first car that we made (below, left) – it doesn’t look like much of a car, does it? It took us a few tries to really get the hang of it, but we had a lot of fun! We don’t know how much repeatability this will have – we enjoyed designing our car 4 times, but would we enjoy it 20 times? That we’ll find out! The sign for the Sim Track (below, right) has a World of Motion tribute. It also isn’t a simulator – it’s the real track, as before.

The first time we felt like we were in the previous ride was when we arrived at the loading area (below, left). But then, it almost feels like we’ve entered a Tron-like environment! This is the view as we went up the ramp (below, right).
Around this point, it says we are connected to OnStar (below, left). We go through several tests, including Capability, Responsiveness and Power. There is a rain simulation (below, right).
This is reminiscent of the old Horizons city of the future (Nova Cite). After the Capability Test is complete, everything turns back into grid form in a very cool effect (below, right).
There are many tributes within the attraction, this segment (below, left) reminds me of the finale of World of Motion, as smoke goes over your futuristic car. We continue to through this tunnel (below, right).
As we finish the last tests, it’s time for the last one – Power (below, left). This is what it looks like before you head out to the track (below, right).
The track itself – just like the loading area – is the same (below, left). Everyone we rode with seemed to think it felt faster than the original Test Track, we thought it felt like the same ride. There are blue lights (below, right) outside at night.
The end of the ride puts us back into the loading station (below, left). Once we exit, there are some pretty fun things to do, including checking your score (below, right). It allows you to see how the car you designed scored – we always seemed to do well on our Power scores, but not much else!
Video #2 – NEW! Test Track 2.0 1080 POV Ride-Through at Epcot, Walt Disney World – Resembles Tron: Legacy Style – This is a full 1080 POV of the updated Test Track 2.0 attraction, which has a very Tron-like vibe to it. This was shot with a Go Pro camera in the front seat.
The Cast Member preview we attended wasn’t busy, but we expect that will change very soon once the attraction opens! Guests can make a commercial out of their car in this room (below, left). There are other cars you can choose as well. This is what the commercial looks like on the screen (below, right), and it can be sent to an email address.
There is a Chevrolet car showroom (below, left), and nearby, guests can take photos with their “car” in different environments like a village or with a polar background (below, right). Right now, there are 3 photos taken and it takes a full minute to take all 3 – hopefully that time will be shortened, 20 seconds is a long time to pose for a photo, 10 seconds is better and Disney could move more guests through quickly.
There are a few new Test Track items for sale – we expect a lot more will be coming (below, left). Steve and I pose for a photo while waiting for our car to arrive (below, right). Denise and I really enjoyed this attraction, much more than expected and it sounds like there will be even more to come in the post-show! Be sure to check out the final ride of the Original GM Test Track below and compare the two versions!
Video #3 – Epcot GM Test Track Final Ride 4/15/12 POV Front Row HD + Full Briefing, Doors Closing, Last Day – This was the final ride of the original GM Test Track at Epcot on 4/15/12. Watch as the clock turns to 9pm and the doors close for the last time before entering the Briefing Room for the complete spiel and then a perfect POV front center ride through in full HD!
