Hi everyone!
We spent a few hours yesterday at the Magic Kingdom (below, left) – it’s hard to believe it’s been a month since we’ve visited! The last visit we made was when the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N Soak area was opened. The Main Street Bakery had been under a facade for quite some time including the last time we were here, and it looks very nice and bright now (below, right).
One of our first stops was at Dumbo the Flying Elephant in Storybook Circus (below, left). This was the first time we’d been inside the new Dumbo stand-by queue, and ridden the second spinner. The signs outside say to “Step Right Up!” and “Come Play Inside” (below, right).
More signs let guests know that they can “Play While You Wait” (below, left). One of the nice things about this is that guests are given a “ticket” to ride, in the form of a pager (below, right). The wait time includes the play area. For us, we had a 20-25 minute wait (as posted), and that included the time inside. fast-pass is also offered for Dumbo the Flying Elephant and can be obtained at Mickey’s Philharmagic (direct access to Dumbo without the playground).
There are several area where kids can play – and parents can sit – within the new queue. Young children enjoy a small slide and car (below, left) in the middle of the queue. Dumbo (below, right), flies overhead, with Timothy Mouse on top. We especially enjoyed the air conditioning as it was a very hot Florida summer day.
This slide (below, left) is themed to the Human Cannonball (below, left). There is an area where kids can run around in that goes through a “burning building” (below, right). This seemed to work very well for the target audience as I heard some kids say they would rather stay and play than actually ride Dumbo after their pager went off. I had never observed anyone ask to remain in a queue before this.
The ringmaster stands by the building (below, left) as firefighters come to the rescue (below, right). The firefighter artwork pays homage to the Firehouse Five Plus Two, including Disney Legend Ward Kimball (below, right).
When Dumbo was ready for our flight our ticket pager went off. (below, left). We walked through the rest of the queue (below, right), ready to enjoy a ride on the spinner that we’ve not tried out yet.
Video #1 – Dumbo the Flying Elephant Interactive Queue, Magic Kingdom Storybook Circus – Disney World – This is the full stand-by line experience for the new Dumbo the Flying Elephant at Walt Disney World. When you enter the circus tent/queue you are given a pager (themed as a circus ticket) and given access to a circus-inspired playground where kids can play while adults enjoy the air conditioning until the pager notifies you that Dumbo is ready for flight.
Once we arrived outside, it was just one or two spins before we were able to ride Dumbo (below, left). We could see construction in the background (below, right) though a look into Fantasyland was nearly impossible due to trees.
Timothy Mouse has returned and now stands above a sign that reads “Believe & Soar”. Here is an up close photo of Timothy with his feather (below, right).
Video #2 – Dumbo the Flying Elephant POV Ride, 2nd Dumbo (Counter Clockwise) – Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World – This is the view today from the second Dumbo ride to be installed at the Magic Kingdom. Look past the trees and you can see some of the construction on the new Fantasyland!
We rode the People Mover to cool off, and get a view of Fantasyland and the Tomorrowland Speedway (below, left). The ride stopped as we entered Space Mountain, and we were evacuated off. Guests were removed in a very organized manner (below, right).
Beyond the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train coaster, there is still a little bit of a view of Prince Eric’s Castle (below, left). The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train construction has changed quite a bit since our last visit (below, right).
Beast’s Castle rises above the rock work (below, left), with a shell that looks like a cinnamon roll in the foreground. The whimsical rooftop and chimney of Maurice’s Cottage can be seen from a few angles as well (below, right).
If you’d like a FASTPASS for Dumbo, they are currently available at Mickey’s Philharmagic (below, left). Guests line up to get FASTPASSES for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo the Flying Elephant (below, right).
There was quite a bit of work going on at the castle walls (below, left). The crowds were busiest near it’s a small world, near where the new restrooms will be (below, right).
Video #3 – Fantasyland Construction Details 7/13/12 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Wall, Beast’s Castle, Mermaid – Our latest look at new Fantasyland construction at Walt Disney World! Includes a look at the following: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train track and exterior, Little Mermaid show building exterior detail, Storybook Circus tents, Belle’s Cottage, closed Snow White’s Scary Adventurers facade, Castle wall extensions and more!
The Grand Floridian DVC Villas construction is moving quickly at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort (below, left), and you can see that in the foreground, there is a yellow barrier in the water that boats can’t pass (below left and right). All boats must now sail around the island en-route to Disney’s Polynesian resort and back. An estimated 147 villas will open in late 2013, making the Grand Floridian the 12th DVC property.
