Disney announced it’s upcoming overhaul of the Downtown Disney area, which will be called Disney Springs. The Town Center (below, left), will be a mix of shopping and dining where guests can “relax, refresh and reconnect”. The Landing (below, right) should have gorgeous waterfront views with dining.
Here is a piece of concept art that shows the springs area (below, left). This is where Pleasure Island is now. In the concept art you can see Raglan Road and a few other recognizable places, but what one friend noticed is a tiki-bar looking building in the upper middle center. There have been rumors of a place like Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar like the one at the Disneyland Hotel in California. The Marketplace (below, right) looks very similar to what is there now, but it is possible that the former McDonald’s building that currently is home to Pollo Campero and Babycakes NY might be removed for an expanded World of Disney.
Here, you can see a portion of the Disney Springs model showing another view of the Town Center (below, left). Not pictured is a very similar looking West Side which will include some covered shopping and “lively entertainment”. There also will be “elevated spaces”. In the nighttime version (below, right), you can see the Characters in Flight balloon, as well as one of the parking garages in the right hand lower side. Some of the new Disney Springs will be where the parking lot is located now, and elevated parking garages should help with the parking issues that guests often find. We think this will be a very nice rejuvenation of Downtown Disney! Disney Springs will open in phases and completion is set for 2016. We should see construction starting next month!
Video #1 – MouseSteps Weekly #45 MK Rapunzel Area at Night, Disney Springs, Charles Fleischer, Ron Schneider – In Mousesteps Weekly #45, we talk about: The new Rapunzel / Tangled area at night at the Magic Kingdom. This is a great spot to watch Wishes fireworks – and you see several angles of that. Disney Springs, which has been announced to revitalize the current Downtown Disney area. There will be two parking garages, and the amount of shops and restaurants will double. There have been rumors of something similar to Trader Sams, and we share a short clip of the Disneyland location. We stop by the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival again to try a new food booth – the Bauernmarket. This one is our favorite so far! Mulan, Brother Bear, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame are now on Blu-ray! We have a contest through Wednesday, March 21st to win a Blu-ray of one of the titles. Denise interviewed Charles Fleischer from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. We have a few minute clip of that interview, where he talks about how he was cast, his bunny suit, and working relationship with Robert Zemeckis. Last, we have an extended segment with original Dreamfinder Ron Schneider and Josh Young from the new website, Theme Park University. Ron discusses hopes for the website, and the Hack-Meister 2000. Josh talks about the Hard Rock Theme Park that used to be in Myrtle Beach, sharing concept art (he talked with execs and creative at the time it opened).
We spent an evening at the Magic Kingdom, and took some video and photos of the new Tangled area at night (below, left and right). The fireworks are lovely here, in the several different areas we shot from!
Wishes fireworks light up the night sky behind the lanterns (below, left). And Denise took this photo, looking over the quiet stream that runs past the seating area (below, right). This will be a great place to relax, charge your batteries, view the fireworks or just enjoy the atmosphere!
Video #2 – Tangled Tower Area at Night w/ Fireworks, Rapunzel & Flynn Rider Theming and Restrooms, Fantasyland – The new Tangled area is now open at the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland and is beautifully lit at night! We also feature the view of the Wishes fireworks from three different angles. This area includes the Tangled tower, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider themed restrooms, seating with outlets and more!
