Magic Kingdom Update: Main Street Confectionery Unveiled, New Fantasyland Construction from Dumbo, Frontierland, Tomorrowland & More Plus Disney at Smithsonian Museums, Washington DC – Photos & Video

Hi everyone!

We were in Washington DC for a long weekend (through Tuesday), and jumped back into the saddle by visiting the Magic Kingdom yesterday. A lot has changed since we’ve been out of town! The Main Street Confectionery scrim has been removed, revealing a vibrant red border on a white exterior (below left and right). You will see in the video that a portion of the Confectionery that is facing the Emporium (inwards towards Main Street) is now in a pink art-deco style as well.

Video #1 – Main Street Confectionery Unveiled 6/16/11 Magic Kingdom Walt Disney World – The Main Street Confectionery has had the scrim come down, it looks really great! Part of it has an art deco look.

Rock work continues to progress on the Be Our Guest Restaurant with Beast’s Castle in the background (below, left). The Little Mermaid show building also has changed since last week (below, right).

Another look towards Fantasyland from Dumbo (below, left) and down where a planter was removed (below, right).

The popcorn cart has been renamed “Maurice’s Amazing Popping Machine” (below, left). Dumbo’s Circus construction (below, right) is seen beyond the Tomorrowland Speedway, which also has new directional signs.

Video #2 – Fantasyland Construction, Ride from Dumbo 6/16/11 Beasts Castle, Mermaid, Dumbo’s Circus – Fantasyland Construction at the Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World) continues to progress!

The Fantasyland Skyway Station is now pretty much gone (below left and right) to make way for new bathrooms. The rumored reason for it’s removal is new bathrooms to make room to expand and enhance the queue for Peter Pan’s Flight (which we have heard will be another interactive queue).

Video #3 – Fantasyland Skyway Station Removal Magic Kingdom 6/16/11 – The Fantasyland Skyway Station is now mostly down (near it’s a small world).

A scrim is still up around the Frontierland Shooting Arcade (below left and right).

It was a beautiful (but warm) day at the Magic Kingdom, and the view of the Haunted Mansion and Liberty Belle were too tempting not to photograph (below, left). Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe is also being rehabbed (below, right).

Video #4 – Frontierland Update 6/16/11 Rehab Scrims – Shooting Gallery – Pecos Bills – The Frontierland Shooting Gallery and Pecos Bills behind scrims at the Magic Kingdom.

The Tomorrowland Terrace sign is surrounded by caladiums (below, left), a beautiful plant which we received at an Epcot Flower and Garden Festival seminar. The Carousel of Progress sign is back, but without the year (below, right).

Video #5 – Carousel of Progress Original Sign Returns without Year 6/16/11 Tomorrowland Walt Disney World – The Carousel of Progress original sign is back, without the year (we don’t know if that will be back or not).

While in Washington D.C., we couldn’t escape the influence of Disney. In the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, we found a photo of Walt Disney with Wernher von Braun posing with models from one of Disney’s space-themed television shows, “Man and the Moon“.  And in a display of different destinations one could travel to via airplane, this suitcase (below, right) is stuffed with Disney souvenirs such as Mickey Mouse ears from an apparently successful trip!

We visited the Smithsonian American History Museum, which included original Muppets (below, left) and a Disneyland Dumbo (below, right). Other items in this area included Archie and Edith Bunker’s chairs, Fonzie’s jacket (from Happy Days) and a Catwoman suit.

Video #6 – Original Muppets & Kermit the Frog, Fonzie’s Jacket, Archie’s Chair – Smithsonian Museum, DC 6/13/11 – We went to the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington DC, and and took some video of the original Muppets and more!

We can’t get away from Dumbo the Flying Elephant (below, left), no matter where we go! And I chose a purple Dumbo (below, right) for my first visit back from Washington. We have video below of the Dumbo at the Smithsonian!

Video #7 – Disneyland Dumbo The Flying Elephant at the Smithsonian Museum Washington DC 6/13/11 – Dumbo at the Smithsonian Museum of American History! (we can’t get away from Dumbo anywhere we go)
