Magic Kingdom: Fantasyland Changes, Downtown Disney: Latest Additions, Epcot: Art in the Garden Weekend – Photos and Videos

Hi everyone!

There is so much going on across property, we spent most of our time between the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Downtown Disney. The flowers are blooming in front of Cinderella Castle (below, left) and Scuttle keeps watch at Ariel’s Grotto, which is set to close soon for the Fantasyland expansion (below, right).

Ariel’s Grotto (below, left) still sports the volcanic style rockwork from the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Submarine Voyage (below, right).

The last time we walked through Fantasyland, there was a wall around a tree – and now that tree, along with everything around it, is gone (below, left). Now there is a large, wide open expanse. The wall in front of Peter Pan’s Flight is also now down (below, right).

The walkway at the Downtown Disney Marketplace is now fully open, and has been widened for better guest flow (below left and right).

The terrific Inagakuen Sogo High School Wind Orchestra (below, left) was part of Magic Music Days at Downtown Disney, playing both Disney and non-Disney songs. They come to Florida every four years, and half of their high school is in the band (we have video HERE)! At the World of Disney (below, right), Buzz Lightyear is aloft in the room that used to be all Pirate themed. The room is now being themed towards boys, including Pirates but with much more. The parrot (originally the Pirates of the Caribbean “Barker Bird”) that used to be here was taken out about 6 weeks ago and might be on it’s way to Disneyland.

This was the first time we’ve seen much Marvel merchandise on property, including comic books (below, left) and a Iron Man “Tony Starch” Mr. Potato Head (below, right).

Ridemakerz (below, left) opened a couple of days ago where the Virgin Megastore (and subsequently the Princess Diana exhibit) was. We were told that they’d be moving in September to a smaller store in the Marketplace, but for now it looks like a sports car showroom (below, right) with customizable toy cars for sale. Guests can add many different options, like their choice of wheels, sound, and you’ll want to add the remote control option for $25.00!

Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival is going strong and Gothic American Mickey and Minnie now have a small silo behind them (below, left). This weekend also saw the “Art in the Garden” event at Epcot, and the impressive sculptures (below, right) were being sold by one vendor.

An artist in Canada (below, left) paints what he sees in Victoria Gardens. A sculpture (also by one of the weekends vendors) shows a young girl on a swing (below, right).

A cat smiles while Mickey’s flower head sits in the background (below, left). Good Fortune Gifts is now open in China (below, right).

The outside front of Good Fortune Gifts (below, left) offers parasols and puppets. Inside, solar-powered keychains and t-shirts are part of what you’ll find there (below, right).

The Cantina in Mexico is expanding outward and upward (below left and right).

My favorite Flower Power Concert Series act so far this year is Starship with Mickey Thomas (below left and right). He and the band really brought down the house at both shows we went to! We also saw them during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival in 2009, and it looks like they’ll be here again for that this year (Oct 28th – 31st). They mix up the songs quite a bit so that no show is ever the same.

Stephanie Calvert (below, left and with me, right) sings Grace Slicks vocals and does a great job doing it!

Video #1 – Starship with Mickey Thomas, “We Built This City”, Epcot Flower and Garden Festival 2010 – This was the second Starship concert at Epcot for 2010, March 26. They were really great, as they were last year!

Video #2 – Starship Starring Mickey Thomas, “Find Your Way Back”, Epcot Flower and Garden Festival 2010 – The band sounds great, see them if you can!
