Disney Dream (Disney Cruise Line) Christening Ceremony 01/19/11 Including Jennifer Hudson – Photos and Video (Now in HD)

Hi everyone!

I had the pleasure of joining Denise from Mousesteps as she was invited to the Disney Dream Christening event and cruise. I’ve had the opportunity to cover many amazing Disney press events over the last 20 or so years, but this was possibly the most spectacular one ever! A Navy color guard and band opened the proceedings (below, left). The beautiful Disney Dream sat in the background (below, right).

The screens opened up to show the ocean and large Christening bottle behind them (below, left). This was so impressive in person! Fireworks were part of the event in several areas (below, right).

Bob Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company spoke (below, left). The Disney Dream Christening bottle sat in the background (below, right).

Sorcerer Mickey told Bob Iger that the bottle was to be filled with dreams, not champagne (below, left). Pirates invade the proceedings (below, right).

We were told by Jason Surrell (show writer and producer for Walt Disney Imagineering) that the boat used is the Black Raven from St. Augustine (below, left). The ship carried Captain Jack Sparrow in the crows nest (below, right).

Captain Jack holds out his arms (below, left). Rapunzel was one of the princesses that filled the stage in the next segment (below, right).

Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen (below, left) hold out their hands to a couple of young children. Ariel and Eric (below, right), hold hands and sway with a young prince and princess.

Large puppets from the World of Color pre-show were sent, featuring Mike Wazowski, the Genie, Sebastian and Lumiere (below left and right). I’ve only seen them at night and from a distance, they are extremely impressive and remind me of the Tapestry of Nations at Epcot.

Mickey Mouse also came out for a dance number with Goofy on drums (below, left). Who knew Mickey could do a split? (below, right)

Performers finish up with a fireworks shot in the background (below, left). Captain Mickey (below, right) joins Tom Staggs and a Navy sailor onstage (below, right).

Disney Dream Cast members wave from the ship (below, left). Performers with flags representing the countries of all the Disney Dream cast stand onstage (below right).

Captain Mickey and Tom Staggs greet the Fairy Godmother (below, left). Singer Jennifer Hudson (below, right) was designated the Disney Dream’s Fairy Godmother, and came out to christen the ship.

Hudson (below, left) is led to the stage by Mickey Mouse, Tom Staggs and the Fairy Godmother.  Jennifer Hudson had once been a performer onboard the Disney Wonder in 2004 before her big break on American Idol! She sang “Who Knows Where a Dream Might Lead” from the Disney Cruise Line show “The Golden Mickeys” (below, right).

Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen bow their heads as a prayer is said (below, left). A helicopter descends to get the Christening bottle with the Disney Dream in view (below, right).

The helicopter lifts the bottle (below, left). It took a minute or so to get it hooked up, and then it was on it’s way to the Disney Dream (below, right).

Jennifer Hudson waves a wand in the air to commence with the Christening  (below, left). The Dreams are released as fireworks explode off the top of the ship (below, right).

A final burst of fireworks explodes from the Disney Dream (below, left). What an amazing show! Chip and Dale flank Tom Staggs as the event ends (below, right).

Full Video – Disney Dream (Disney Cruise Line) Christening Ceremony 01/19/11 Full Show Including Jennifer Hudson – This was an amazing show! So many characters, dancing, singing, fireworks, and more as the ship is christened. Jennifer Hudson even sings a song! Huge puppets from Disney’s World of Color join the event, along with Captain Jack Sparrow on a pirate ship.

Denise and I pose in front of the ship (below, left). The ship sits in the background, ready for us to embark on a 2-night journey (below, right).

Looking downstairs inside the Disney Cruise terminal, a welcome banner is displayed (below, left). The Disney Dream then got ready for guests to board (below, right).  More to come this week!
