Thanks to our friend Derek, we had the opportunity to test out the MyMagic+ MagicBands at both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, using our MagicBands for three attractions each day. We checked in at the Hospitality desk at Disney’s All Star Music Resort (below, left), where we received our MagicBands and other information. Our MagicBands were handsomely presented in a large box (below, right), with our names.
Video #1 – MagicBand Unboxing and Wearing, Walt Disney World, MyMagic+, Fastpass+, Beta Testing – We were invited by a Cast Member friend to test the new MagicBands with MyMagicPlus, (FastPass+) which is testing both for Cast Members and select guests. It may be 2 or 3 months before it rolls out to all resort guests at Walt Disney World. This is the MagicBand as we took it out of the box and try it on.
Our room was in the Rock section of Disney’s All Star Music Resort (below, left). Denise and I didn’t end up staying with Derek, but we do have a room tour video. Our MagicBands (below, right) also have our names on the back.
Denise tests our her MagicBand on the resort door (below, left). She said she’d prefer the RFID chip to be in the side of the MagicBand to make it easier to use. A towel Mickey (below, right was greeting us on the bed at Disney’s All Star Music Resort.
Video #2 – Disney’s All Star Music Resort – Rock Section – Room Tour with MagicBand Entrance, Walt Disney World – This is a detailed room tour of a standard room at Disney’s All Star Music Resort in the Rock Section, along with a MagicBand entrance. MagicBand is part of MyMagic+ and we were testing it.
Our first MagicBand test was at Spaceship Earth (below, left). Our suggestion is to make sure that everyone in your party is associated online together, it will make things much easier! The Fastpass+ entrance (below, right) had barely been used, official testing actually started there today. Kiosks were not yet in use when we were there yesterday.
We only had about an hour to play, and 3 hours of Fastpass+ attractions scheduled. What we did was ride Spaceship Earth, and then move our Character Spot reservation to a much closer time. We had to wait until after Spaceship Earth, since it would have overlapped otherwise. We met Mickey, Minnie and Pluto (below, left). Here is one incarnation of our schedule (below, right). We had many changes throughout both days!
Our last visit at Epcot was at The Seas with Nemo and Friends (below, left). They were very excited when we arrived, since they hadn’t had many guests yet. We also went to Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside for a late lunch, using the MagicBand as payment (below, right). It works very much in that regard like a Key to the World card.
Video #3 – MagicBand Testing at Resort Room Door, Epcot Attractions and Food Purchase, MyMagic+, FastPass+ – We tested our new MagicBands and MyMagic+ today (invited by a Cast Member friend). This is our experience at the resort room door, attractions at Epcot (Spaceship Earth, Character Spot and The Seas with Nemo and Friends), an example of changing the time of an experience and some kiosks guests can use if they don’t have a smart phone. We also went to Port Orleans Riverside for lunch, and used our MagicBand there to pay (we connected the MagicBand to our credit card).
We went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios today (below, left), which was much busier than Epcot had been. Our first reservation was for Toy Story Midway Mania (below, right), possibly the most difficult Fastpass to get on a regular day at Walt Disney World.
We tested out the kiosks at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – they are at several areas in the park, including near the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (below, left). We changed one of our attractions (below, right). It takes a little getting used to the app and kiosks to understand how it works, but we started zipping through after a couple of changes.
We didn’t get a chance to ride Tower of Terror, but we did go to the Rock n’ Roller Coaster (below, left), where we mixed with the regular Fastpass guests. I tapped my MagicBand against Mickey twice, once upon entry and once closer to the ride (below, right). This in part is in case the ride has a breakdown, it doesn’t show up as a used Fastpass.
We rode The Great Movie Ride (below, left), which has never had Fastpass before. The American Idol Experience also is new to Fastpass+ (below, right). This was an enjoyable test and we hope that Fastpass+ runs smoothly once everyone staying on property is part of it. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World resort will receive MagicBands, just as Annual Passholders will. MagicBands will also be for sale in the gift shops. Currently, this is only a test – some guests at Walt Disney World resorts are participating, but it will be later this year before it fully rolls out.

This is a look at how MagicBands work, both at several attractions at Epcot and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
We purchased a set of MagicBand CoverBands a few weeks ago (below, left). The CoverBands included are themed to the Haunted Mansion, Enchanted Tiki Room, and it’s a small world. They are easy to put on the MagicBand (below, right).
Video #5 – Disney MagicBand CoverBand Accessory Demo for MyMagic+ Fastpass+ – Haunted Mansion, Tiki Room – These are the CoverBands that guests can buy for the MagicBands that are currently being tested (the testing is rolling out to resort guests). Included are the Haunted Mansion CoverBand, The Enchanted Tiki Room, and it’s a small world. There are other accessories as well.
