We were invited by a friend to enjoy a movie at the new AMC Dine-In Theaters at Downtown Disney (below, left). Cast members were offered a free movie, as well as a free soft drink and appetizer or entree. They were also allowed to bring guests! There is outdoor seating in front of the theater (below, left). This entrance now services only the Dine-In Theaters (below, right).
There is a menu at your seat upon arrival (below, left), which has a nice variety of items to order. The seats are spacious and comfortable (below, right).
We decided to order one appetizer in addition to the entrees, and chose the Sweet Onion Loops (below left, $6.99). There were sauces that I enjoyed with each item, including a Sweet and Tangy BBQ sauce for the onion rings. Our friend David chose the Loaded Potato Skins ($7.99), which cheddar and jack cheese. We really enjoyed these!
Denise ordered the Chicken Tenders ($11.99) and I had the Fried Shrimp ($12.99). Denise said the chicken tenders were bland and dry, with french fries that taste too much like standard Disney fries. The shrimp was just okay for me, we’d order non-fried entrees next time. A friend of ours really enjoyed her Asian Chicken Salad ($10.99). David enjoyed his Smoked Salmon BLT ($10.99), with chips that were homemade and served warm.
We really loved the seating arrangement, with the large (and we were told partially leather) seats and tables (below, left). The six theaters range between 96 and 127 seats (below, right). I thought the experience was similar to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The lighting was a bit brighter than during a regular movie but not too bright. The dining aspect really did not detract from concentrating on the movie for me but I do suggest arriving about 30 min before the movie starts.
The experience begins and ends in the lobby (below, left and right), we enjoyed an hour or so in the lobby after the movie. Soft drinks that are ordered here before the movie can be brought into the movie and refilled free of charge.
The lobby includes Guest Services (below, left), where guests can buy tickets and ask questions. Seating is reserved, tickets have the seat number on them. Menus are also on tables in the lobby (below, right), we saw guests enjoying full meals out there.
We stopped by the other section of the AMC Theaters, which has undergone an extensive renovation of it’s own. The hallway (below, left) leads to the door that separates the two sides of the theater. 18 regular screens remain. A Cars 2 standee (below, right) promotes the upcoming film.
Mater parachutes into Italy (below, left), while Holley Shiftwell glides into London (below, right). Disney has a nice slate of films for the spring/summer, we are looking forward to Cars 2!
