Magic Kingdom and Epcot Update: Fantasyland, Flower & Garden Second Planting, Mexico Cantina & Flower Power Concert featuring The Nelsons – Photos and Video

Hi everyone!

We were surprised to see so many changes at the Magic Kingdom yesterday after just a couple of days – and Epcot as well, with new plants and so much more going on! At the Magic Kingdom, Grad Nite preparations are in full swing (below left and right) for next weekend.

The Liberty Tree Tavern is under a facade, while work goes on but remains fully open for business (below left and right).

Peter Pan’s Flight is also under a facade (and still open), which contributes to the extensive work in Fantasyland (below left and right).

A marionette is being held by a cast member in front of Pinocchio’s adding a nice little plus to the dining experience (below, left) and Piglet is visible through the Fantasyland wall (below, right). Much seems to have been done already in the Pooh’s Playful Spot area.

Over the fence, the tree is being readied to move to the entrance of the Many Adventurers of Winnie The Pooh attraction (below, left) and there is a better view of Piglet (below, right).

A bride and groom are taken from the Wedding Pavilion to the Grand Floridian Convention Center in style by Cinderella’s coach (below left and right).

Epcot has a second planting that occurs midway through the Flower & Garden Festival, and from the colors of the flower quilts, it’s evident that it’s already started (below left and right). There are fewer purples and more oranges and pinks.

The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is represented in these Port of Entry store signs (below left and right).

We went to the “Gardening at Home” seminar today at Epcot, and the project was making coasters out of dried flowers (below left and right). They turned out really nicely! I even won a basil plant, so that was a nice surprise to take home.

The Mexico pavilion’s Cantina de San Angel had a portion of the facade down yesterday (below left and right). From the speed that it seems to be going up, it’s hard to believe it won’t be done until September!

Cantina de San Angel is supposed to have both inside seating as well as some nice views on the water (below left and right).

Here is a different view, from across the water of the Cantina (below left and right).

The flowers in this area of the Moroccan Pavilion have changed, there had been purple plants here in the past week or so mixed with green, now they are all one color (below, left). The butterfly at the International Gateway has also changed colors (below, right).

The Nelsons played the Flower & Garden Festival “Flower Power concert series” this weekend (below, left). Matthew and Gunnar were joined in their band by Gary Corbett (below, right), who has played for both KISS and Cinderella (not the princess!)

Gunnar (below, left) and Matthew Nelson (below, right) put on a great show! They do a tribute to their late father Ricky Nelson. During both concerts we went to, they added one of their own hit songs as well.

Video #1 – The Nelsons “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection”, Epcot Flower and Garden Festival 2010 – The Nelsons play mostly their dad Ricky Nelsons music, but one of their one during each set we attended.

Video #2 – The Nelsons “Garden Party”, Epcot Flower and Garden Festival 2010 – The group Nelson did a “Ricky Nelson Remembered” series of shows for the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. Here is one of their late fathers biggest hits.
