We enjoyed Sunday at the Magic Kingdom to celebrate Disneyland’s 56th birthday! I’ve often been able to celebrate at Disneyland itself, but we have other Disneyland plans coming up soon. We hadn’t realized that Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was to be taping in the park that day, we learned from a friend that afternoon that there would be a parade and flyover. We got there early enough to see the parade (below left and right) honoring Barbara Marshall, a former Navy officer who assists homeless women veterans.
The Voices of Liberty sang “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America” as servicemen and women surround the Town Square (below left and right). The flag was lowered and given to Barbara Marshall, who will be receiving a new home that will house her family as well as other veterans in need.
Two U.S. Navy F18 jets fly from Cinderella Castle to and over the Main Street Train Station (below, left and right).

As part of our Disneyland birthday celebration, we stopped at City Hall for birthday buttons celebrating Walt’s original park (below, left). The plan was to experience all the opening day attractions from Disneyland that are still operating today at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World! Five of us enjoyed the day (below, right), though the television taping and flyover cut into the plan, so Denise and I finished up two last rides on our own that evening.
One of our July 17th, 1955 opening day Disneyland rides was Dumbo, the Flying Elephant! Timothy Mouse leads the band (below, left), while we enjoyed a lift on our favorite pachyderm (below, right).
We took some photos and video of Fantasyland, including The Beast’s Castle (below, left) and the Little Mermaid show building (below, right).
Bon Jour Village Gifts (below, left) has progressed a lot since the last time we visited, and small “trees” are sitting in front of Beast’s Castle (below, right). These trees could possibly be placeholders to show where the finished sculpted trees will be placed

Continuing on our opening day celebration of Disneyland, we rode the Wamba Wanda Jungle Cruise boat to see the backside of water (below, left). We then took a slight detour from our quest to check out the Magic Carpets of Aladdin to see what was behind the Tiki Room construction walls (below, right).
I rode with Denise and Dave (below, left) on the Mad Tea Party. After this, we only had two more original rides left in celebrating Disneyland’s 56th! Snow White’s Scary Adventures, which is sadly scheduled to close sometime in the future (below, right) had been busy all day, but we were able to snag a ride on it just after dinner at the Plaza Restaurant (below, right).
Earlier, we had gotten Fastpasses for Peter Pan’s Flight, which is one of my favorite rides in the park (below, left). And our last ride of the day was on the Tomorrowland Speedway, or as we refereed to it on this day only: Tomorrowland Autopia. It was a great night for a ride!
