Walt Disney World “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” Press Event – Day One: What’s New, What’s Next Media Presentation – Photos and Video

Hi everyone!

We just attended day 1 of the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” press event! The event was held at the newly re-branded ESPN Wide World of Sports facility. The evening kicked off with the “What’s New, What’s Next” (below, left) media presentation. Meg Crofton, President of the Walt Disney World Resort (below, right) told everyone about the upcoming “Summer Nightastic“.

Summer Nightastic” (below, left) will include the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade (below, right). The way Crofton described it made it sound like it included new floats, but the Pinocchio and Tinker Bell floats were added last summer at Disney’s California Adventure – and that is the version that is coming here.

Other additions to “Summer Nightastic” include a all-new fireworks show (below, left) and some summer additions to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (below, right). There were not a lot of details given on either. Rumor was that the fireworks show would be the “Magic, Music and Mayhem” fireworks from the Pirates and Princess Party, but we were told that it wasn’t the case.

Bonus Video Meg Crofton Announces the Upcoming 2010 “Summer Nightastic” at Walt Disney World – Meg Crofton made the official announcement on February 10th, 2010 about “Summer Nightastic” at Walt Disney Word. The Main Street Electrical Parade is coming back this summer, as well as a new fireworks show and some summer additions to Tower of Terror.

Al Weiss, President of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts (below, left) talked about the upcoming Fantasyland project (below, right).

Artwork detailing some of  Fantasyland Forest is below. An overview (below, left) gives the scope of what will be happening.  The artwork (below, right) is from Dreams Come True with Cinderella. Disney says that “guests can meet Cinderella face to face in her country chateau, share a dance or train to be one of her Royal Knights”.

The artwork (below, left) is from A Birthday Surprise for Sleeping Beauty. Disney explains it as “it is party time inside Briar Rose Cottage, nestled in a lush, forest setting. The three good fairies give Aurora the Sweet 16 party she never received, and everyone’s invited to join in the surprise celebration.” The photo (below, right) shows the artwork of the exterior of Gaston’s Tavern.

An artist rendering (below, left) of the “Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid” attraction features Ariel in front of the upcoming ride.  Disney adds a second Dumbo ride (below, right), along with a circus tent in “Dumbo’s Flying Circus“.

The Disney Cruise Line (below, left) talked about it’s previously announced expansion to it’s fleet as well as to Castaway Cay. A new floating water platform with water slides (below, right) will be finished by the summer of 2010,

In 2011, the new Disney Dream cruise ship will include a new AquaDuck water coaster (below, left) – which will stretch 765 feet, and will be 4 decks high. All of the inside staterooms (below, right) will include a Virtual Porthole which will give guests a real-time view outside of the ship (as well as some animated surprises!)

The re-branded ESPN Sports Complex was also presented, and you can see artwork (below left and right). The official renaming date is February 25th, 2010 – but much of the signage is already in place. More than 250 events are staged here each year.

The stage (below, left) sits empty while the media look for interviews. Dinner provided included hot dogs, bratwurst, pretzel bread and cotton candy. (below, right).

Doobie from LaughingPlace and I sit at the ESPN Sports Desk (below, left). Outside of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the new logo is displayed (below, right).

*In the interest of full disclosure, we were given park hopper passes with extra fun features, as well as 2 counter service coupons, a media Fast Pass, dinner and a ball cap.

I attended as part of the Mousesteps website, For more great photos and coverage, please check out our update HERE!
